Morning Webbies! I had a perfectly lovely Labor Day this past weekend and I hope you did also. The Fox and I decided we had not been down to Portland in a while. Always a fun trip, we packed up the cross-over vehicle and headed towards this big bright city. One of the things I insisted on doing was hitting up Cameo Cafe.
Now this place is probably the definition of a hole in the wall joint. It’s tiny, and so are its seats. Don’t let the size fool you though, the food here is the best! My absolute favorite thing on the menu is the Long Life soup. Do you know how hard it is to find good soup as a main course at any restaurant? Well let me tell you the answer to that question, very. The soup is hot, and I don’t just mean temperature-wise. Even the mild will have your nose running by the end of your bowl, in a very good way though. The noodles are wonderful and every time I go I think about asking for extra. I always get the veggie, not because I don’t like seafood, but because I think there is something light and delicious about having just the classic with no add-ins. The fox got the half acre blueberry pancake. This is a pancake that hangs over the edges of a normal sized dinner plate, and it’s not a skinny pancake either. A full acre is 2 of these monstrosities. I will have to take the Fox’s “Mmm dis fiz foooe gwood!” at face value as I am not a fan of blueberries. To top all this off it’s pretty darn cheap. I love this place and wish we lived closer.
The second part of our little adventure was a trip to Powell’s. Powell’s is a bookstore that covers an entire city block and is several stories high. (Tee hee, Stories! 🙂 Okay I’m a dork! ) It is a wonderland for any level of reader. Whenever we go we have to set a budget, because I kid you not after 2 hours in that store I can drop $500 easy. This trip was much lower key, and much less expensive. Still got some good stuff though. Honest Webbies, if your every in the Portland area hit up Powell’s. Just marvel at the vast array of the written word.
The last place we stopped on our little trip was on the way home. Up I-5 in the state of Washington you’ll see an exit for a town called Kalama. Get off there and go toward the sign that says Burger Barn. Park, go inside, and order a milkshake. You’ll be very glad you did!
Keep Surfing Webbies and may all your Imaginings be Fertile!
