Hey webbies. So you know my last post. Yeah it looks like family is not a-comin’. I’m okay with this, it means less cleaning for me. I hope I do get a visit while they’re up here though. Today though I though I’d admit a problem I have.
Hello, my name is Stara and I’m a world building-aholic. What do I mean? Well instead of writing fiction stories with adventure, and I don’t know… Plot. I tend to write about the world it’s all going to take place in. I write twenty page descriptions of how religion works, or the magic system, or (and sadly to say this one is true) 15 pages, single spaced, on the line of kings in one country of the world for only the past 200 years. I pour hours into figuring out if it’s better to have the capital city on a harbor or in the interior of the country (By a source of fresh water of course, most likely a river.) There is always something else to write about instead of the story I want to write. I rationalize it by saying “Well I want to do this scene where the main character meets someone for this country, but I can’t write that till I figure out the mode of dress and customs of that country. Oh and how those customs came to be.”
This is a very bad habit, but one I delight in. I’m not sure I want to break it, but I know I should. I never get around to writing the story. I’ll stop eventually. I have to. Ah well there is my confession webbies. I hope you’re not too disappointed in me. Off I go to finish writing this line of kings 😉
